Preservation of traditional architecture in Cyprus
Association Chypre et Luxembourg

Cyprus is one of Europe's most prolific countries in terms of material cultural heritage, with a significant legacy of vernacular architecture.

With an architectural history of more than ten thousand years, the quality of its buildings is remarkable: each village, each town, and especially the main cities, have a vast list of protected and documented buildings, ranging from medieval castles and Byzantine churches to simple houses and dwellings, shaping the cities in a diversity of medieval, Ottoman, classical and modern complexes.

This exhibition aims to present the concepts of restoration in Cyprus, thanks to the work of various architects and companies. In this context, the government program Diatiriteo encourages the respect and protection of vernacular architecture, by encouraging owners to benefit from economic aid. It will also present projects that demonstrate the success of the program in preserving the character of these structures while adapting them to modern life.

Organization : non-profit association Chypre et Luxembourg, with the support of the office of the presidential commissioner (the Department of Cypriot Diaspora (Υπηρεσια Κυπριων Διασπορας) and the Greek community of Luxembourg.
