Josef Filipp Galerie in its current form was established in 2015 and emerged from former curatorial and gallery projects by its founder Josef Filipp. The gallery is situated in the Spinnerei gallery district, a locally and internationally recognised hub for contemporary art.
On 220 square meters the gallery realises every year 10 to 12 exhibitions of contemporary art in both solo presentations and curated group shows, of young emerging and established artists. The gallery‘s specialisation lies in contemporary painting, however, in accordance with a broader understanding of contemporary art as not being limited to one medium or technique in particular the gallery seeks to present current art productions across various media and styles as well as to embed this variety within a wider framework of discourses within and discussed by contemporary art today.
The gallery program represents a spectrum of artists with diverse backgrounds and artistic interests, including conceptually driven painting styles, installation art, conceptual art and sculpture. It is deliberately understood as a space for both young emerging artists and career-wise more advanced artists. This program enables us to give the audience a more broad encompassing sense of what drives current art production from themes, questions, and issues both formal and content. The gallery understands itself as both a space for artistic development as well as dialogue with a wider audience.
Having developed this multidisciplinary strength with a background in painting, this is what we plan to represent in Luxembourg.
