La La Lande is rooted in utopia and dreams. A world of beginnings and creation, which lends the gallery a name and a lineage.
The gallery features artists from the MENA region, whose work is both poetic and political. The common thread is wan- dering, exile and the quest. Questions and challenges to identity, gender, norms, de- partures. What they have in common are narrative figurations and societal art.
Wave-like musicalities that sway between deformed or symmetrical forms.
The gallery is thus part of the new wave of engagement, which aspires to decons- truct and bring forward alternative reflec- tions, from between the two shores and through them.
The primary aspiration remains that of rea- ching out to people, and making art accessible - placing it in a dialogue.
The gallery’s artists question and dissect ‘dominant norms’ through their work, re- defining malleable and evolving identities, free from prejudice.
Between the Eldorados of exile and the crossing of the Mediterranean, from violence and guilt to candid emergence. The mediums are at the service of the artist’s philosophy. The moving images of the cinema are frozen on paper, and there they come to life. The engravings dramatize reality, the paintings transcend the watertightness of politics.
