Luxembourg Art Week is proud to present the selection committee for its 2025 edition. Composed of art professionals from diverse backgrounds and appointed for a three-year term, with some overlap to ensure continuity, the committee plays a pivotal role in reviewing and selecting exhibitors for Luxembourg Art Week 2025. We are delighted to welcome Luc Haenen, who joins the committee and brings his expertise.

Luc Haenen is a passionate art collector and former heart surgeon. Until November 2024, he practiced full-time in the medical field before dedicating more time to his lifelong interest in contemporary art.

Since 2000, Luc Haenen and his wife, Carine, have been building a diverse collection, acquiring works from artists at the early stages of their careers. What began with a focus on Belgian artists has since expanded internationally, encompassing a wide range of media, including installation, painting, sculpture, and video. Beyond collecting, they actively support artists through the production of catalogues and critical writings.

Their collection also includes a curated selection of artworks exploring themes of disease and decay, a subject on which he has regularly given lectures.

“It is true that the Grand Duchy is primarily known as a financial hub, but it is often overlooked that, supported by the solid foundations of MUDAM and Casino Luxembourg, there is a leading contemporary art scene that continues to surprise and impress year after year. Add to this Luxembourg's strategic geographical location and its art of living, which also contribute to the success of Luxembourg Art Week.

In light of the recent editions, the enthusiastic reception from the Luxembourgish public, and the presence of renowned galleries, I am particularly delighted to join this selection committee and contribute, alongside the team, to further nurturing this wonderful momentum in the years to come.”

Luc Haenen is a member of WIELS Club in Brussels and S.M.A.K. in Ghent.
