Berthe Brincour (1879-1947). Une artiste hors normes et hors temps is the first major retrospective of Luxembourgish painter Berthe Brincour (1879–1947), a notable yet overlooked figure. Nearly 80 years after she bequeathed her entire body of work to the state, much of it remains unexamined and has never been shown in full. Thanks to ongoing research and restoration, the museum now brings her expressive, modern art back into view – and secures her place in Luxembourg’s art history.
For nearly 80 years, the work of Luxembourgish painter Berthe Brincour has been waiting to be rediscovered. Quietly held in the collection of the Luxembourg state since her death in 1947, her paintings, ink drawings and studies have remained largely unseen — up until now.
The Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart presents the first major retrospective dedicated to her work, the result of years of dedicated research and restoration. More than a rediscovery, it is a celebration of an artist who broke the mould, defied convention and left behind a body of work that continues to surprise. Moving with unusual freedom through the artistic currents of her time, Brincour developed a language that was distinctly and unmistakably her own.
