Carles Valverde

Untitled, 2024
Corten steel, 200 x 300 cm
Presented by aquilaluna galerie

Lieu

Dräi Eechelen park, L-2616 Luxembourg

This sculpture was presented at the Château de Fraineux (Belgium) by the aquilaluna gallery as part of a group exhibition on monumental sculpture. The piece is a nomadic work in Corten steel, made up of four detachable elements that extend horizontally from a central core. Minimalist and pure, this play of balance offers the eye a freer space. The void is carefully sculpted. As you walk around it, you find yourself searching for the flaw, or the secret. It is a motionless cry, a futile equilibrium that binds metal to fate through sheer rigour.

Biography

Carles Valverde is a sculptor, as well as a printmaker and painter. He combines geometry with finesse and, like Georges Braque, "loves the emotion that corrects the rule". Alongside his sculpture, Valverde works with paper and reflective fabrics, which he cuts, glues under a press and/or folds, playing with different perceptions of space and light. Since 1986, he has held numerous solo exhibitions in galleries, mainly in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, France and Belgium.

In 2016, the Canton of Vaud invited him to exhibit at the Espace Arlaud, a four-storey museum in the centre of Lausanne, which was devoted entirely to his work. He has also taken part in many group exhibitions and fairs across Europe, including ARCO, Art Cologne, Art Frankfurt, Art Paris and Art Zurich. Several of his works are held in public and corporate collections, among them Nestlé, UBS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Crédit Suisse, the Fonds des arts plastiques de la Ville de Lausanne, the Fonds cantonal de décoration et d'art visuel of the State of Geneva, the Musée Jenisch (Vevey, Switzerland), the town hall of Terrassa, his home town, and Ars Fundum (Madrid). His monumental works can be found in Lausanne (Switzerland), Terrassa (Spain), Poland and Mallorca.
