The ‘disintegrating’ force of the street and urban context is likewise referenced through a very different approach to space in the over-sized sculptural group Thank-You Monoliths(2021), which challenges its difficult context, set between a modernist megablock and major traffic artery. Brutal handmade blocks with a Jesmonite surface design comprising the  words ‘Thank You’ embossed at various intervals stand on rusty steel I-beams, partially obstructing the awkward public space. The overblown format responds directly to the surrounding architecture, a former furniture store in the process of becoming a cultural venue called Konschthal Esch – a transformation that also informs the artwork’s reference to commercial advertising, elevating the hollow slogans of corporate gratitude to monumental status. This levelling of minimalist and capitalist cultural tropes is accentuated by an additional fountain-of-sorts: in a barely visible comic touch, water flows pathetically from a seemingly leftover sandwich bag.
