Inspired by ancient architecture, Laura Pasquino unveils Temple at the sculpture trail of Luxembourg Art Week 2024. Known for her minimalist ceramic works, Pasquino transcends her usual intimate approach here to explore a sculptural language that is both monumental and introspective.
Through this piece, Pasquino establishes a profound dialogue between body and mind. Temple is not simply an external structure; it becomes the reflection of an inner sanctuary, a metaphor for the spaces we build within ourselves from our experiences, memories, and emotions. The ascending forms, reaching towards the sky, evoke the human quest for balance and meaning—an elevation of the spirit shaped by our inner lives.
The raw, unglazed texture of the ceramics, marked by traces of the fabrication process, intensifies this exploration of the layers of existence. Here, Pasquino allows the material to reveal itself in its purest state, serving as a metaphor for the interaction between natural and human forces. By leaving the imperfections visible, she evokes how the elements shape and transform human structures over time. Temple thus becomes an echo of nature itself: a work rooted in the earth through its materials. Could it ultimately be a symbolic bridge between the physical world and that of emotions?
With Temple, Laura Pasquino invites us to reflect deeply on our own inner architectures while celebrating the meeting point between tradition and innovation. This work reminds us that every structure, whether built from stone or emotion, bears witness to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of time’s forces.
