This sculpture embodies Wolfgang Flad’s ongoing exploration of organic growth, transformation, and spatial movement. Its flowing, biomorphic form evokes structures found throughout nature: the branching of coral formations, the unfolding of plant life, the erosion of geological surfaces, or the skeletal frameworks that support living organisms.

Rather than depicting a specific natural element, the work suggests a state of continuous becoming. Open voids and fluid transitions between solid and empty space create a dynamic tension, allowing the sculpture to appear both monumental and remarkably light. The elongated curves seem to grow upward, as if shaped by natural forces over time, while the warm, textured surface reinforces associations with weathered wood, earth, and organic matter.

The piece invites contemplation of the invisible processes that shape the natural world: growth and decay, stability and fragility, gravity and expansion.

Biography

Born in Reutlingen, Germany, in 1974, Wolfgang Flad lives and works in Berlin. He studied Textile Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Reutlingen (1995–2000) before continuing his studies in Fine Arts at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart (2000–2004).

Over the past two decades, Flad has developed an internationally recognized artistic practice encompassing sculpture, reliefs, and large-scale installations. His work has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Israel, and the United States, including presentations at the Tampa Museum of Art (Florida), Galerie Reinhard Hauff (Stuttgart), Bluerider Art (Taipei), and numerous museums, galleries, and public institutions.

Drawing inspiration from processes found in micro- and macrobiology, geological formations, and natural growth systems, Flad creates works characterized by dynamic biomorphic structures and a strong dialogue between form, material, and space. His sculptures often blur the boundaries between organic and abstract forms, inviting viewers to explore the relationships between movement, transformation, and perception.
