Typical (fe)male? – GENDER ROLES AND IDENTITIES IN ART
Since the earliest expressions of human art, women have been a coveted and fantasized aesthetic model. A tour of the permanent exhibition quickly reveals that there are more paintings by women than works by women artists. Why is this? Looking at the works of art, however, reveals different types of women: all social classes and ages are represented in the works, and may have different symbolic connotations. During this thematic tour, discover how women's roles and identities are represented in the Villa Vauban's permanent collection.
