VAM
The Graft 11 , 2025
Birch bark, pigment print on Japanese paper, silk thread. Unique artwork. La Greffe 11 is part of VAM’s eponymous series, an exploration of the connection between humanity and nature, pushing the boundaries between the material, the corporeal, and the vegetal. VAM experiments with the fusion—both literal and metaphorical—of these three dimensions. La Greffe embodies a true xenograft: the body, fragmented and merged with the thin bark of a young birch tree, is repaired—almost reinvented—through delicate stitches of red silk thread, revealing both the fragility and the resilience of this new hybrid form. Bark and skin echo one another, evoking envelopes and metamorphoses, what contains us, protects us, binds us, and transcends us. VAM takes to the extreme the contemporary drive to nurture our bond with nature. By reshaping the boundaries of the vegetal and human worlds, she imagines a new mythology in which nature absorbs and transforms us. A symbiosis where bodies and trees become one, regenerating, nourishing, and rising together. Through this hybridization, VAM celebrates a universal solidarity and offers a vision of a world enhanced not by technology but by the organic. La Greffe invites us to “take root” in order to slow our drift. It resonates as a call to reconnect with the space that surrounds us—a bridge between our personal histories and the greater history of life itself. If the work confronts us with the limits of our world, this ultimate graft abolishes them and offers us a poetic transcendence.20 x 16 cm
