EMPREINTE is a collective of printmakers founded in 1994.
Our mission is to promote original printmaking, preserve and pass on our expertise, and keep traditional printmaking techniques alive within a contemporary context.
EMPREINTE is fully equipped for traditional printmaking processes. Our members share the studio and its facilities, and organise and participate in group exhibitions in Luxembourg, the Greater Region and across the European Union.
We offer courses for both beginners and advanced practitioners in a range of techniques, including engraving, drypoint, etching, aquatint and soft-ground etching.
We maintain close ties with printmakers in Europe and beyond, and collaborate with museums and other institutions to create and promote original prints.
Each year, EMPREINTE welcomes renowned printmakers for artist residencies, offering them open access to the studio, opportunities to discover Luxembourg's art scene and a space for mutual exchange and collaboration.
The EMPREINTE collection comprises more than 300 original prints created by our members, artists in residence and international collaborators, reflecting the creative life of our studio. The works are preserved at the National Library of Luxembourg for conservation and research purposes.
Since 2016, we have developed a new concept every year. Take Off 2026 invites you to explore one of the great themes in art history: Still Life.
Our artists offer their own personal interpretations, exploring the themes and ideas underlying this genre, from the classical concept of Vanitas to contemporary approaches.
The techniques featured include traditional printmaking processes such as drypoint, etching, aquatint, mezzotint, soft-ground etching, monotype, woodcut, linocut, photogravure and many more. Together, they demonstrate the expressive power and remarkable diversity of printmaking.
