EMPREINTE is an artist run printmakers’ collective established in 1994. Our members share the studio and its facilities, organize and participate in collective exhibitions in Luxembourg, the Greater Region and the EU.

We aim to raise awareness of original graphic works, preserve and share our knowhow and bring traditional printmaking to life in a contemporary context.

EMPREINTE is fully equipped for traditional printmaking and offers both introductory and specialized courses on techniques such as engraving, etching, aquatint, soft ground.

Our connections with associations and engravers in Europe and abroad provide opportunities for residencies, exhibitions, and collaborative projects.

We cooperate in printmaking projects with museums and other institutions.

Since 1996, EMPREINTE has been hosting renowned printmakers for residencies, providing them with an opportunity to work in our studio and explore the Luxembourgish art scene.

EMPREINTE ‘s collection of more than 300 original prints by members, residents and international collaborators documents the life of our workshop and is stored at the BnL for preservation and research.

Every year since 2016 a new concept shows the diversity of expression achieved by traditional printmaking techniques.

Our concepts aim to highlight the single artist while keeping an overall uniform design to showcase the collective: we define a color, a subject, a format and the number of works to be presented.

Our 10th participation grants our printmakers the greatest freedom of expression yet – we ask for new works created especially for LAW, leaving the rest to every one’s own artistic responsibility. Participants decide on color, technique, subject, number and format of their prints.

In a “Petersbourg Hanging” prints will be associated freely among all works , offering new discoveries among well known favorite artists...
