Sculpture Trail

"COMPASS is a work conceived from sculptural poetry, with which I aspire to exalt BEAUTY, through its forms and composition among volumes, as a metaphor for the audience's vital experience. Its three supports escape from the core to penetrate the Earth, connecting with it, delineating spaces and directions, just as a compass guides our lives." - Carlos Albert

The Madrid sculptor Carlos Albert began his work in forging in 1999 alongside Martín Chirino, from whom he not only learned the technique and sculptural design but also discovered new paths in his artistic creation. That same year, he founded "Group 99" with other artists, a collective whose manifesto celebrates "the traditional values of art" during a confusing time for the sector.

Albert's work revolves around iron and corten steel, which he shapes in a way that makes his pieces seem almost alive, in a continuous search for movement, exploration of space and geometry, and reflections between the object and the void. Although his practice is firmly rooted in Abstraction, he considers himself a very traditional artist, adhering to classical canons and placing great importance on drawing and composition. In his most recent phase, the incorporation of color stands out as an additional element, reinforcing the contrast between volumes, beauty, and expressiveness in the work.

“Present and unrelenting, the sculpture of this artist from Madrid is disclosed as an opening to new places, other landscapes, but one is also reminded that some of Albert’s works discover their true self outside, when that drawing in space can be best appreciated contemplated in the distance, with perspective; sculptural forms as invitations to space. In the end, we are dealing with an artist “who needs this contact, to have his feet on the ground and to feel himself at one with the forces of life.” - (Alfonso de la Torre, book “Carlos Albert, towards the unknown”, 2023)

Carlos Albert's works can be found in numerous institutions, museums, public spaces, and private collections, such as the National Heritage of Spain, the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Seville, the Infanta Elena Museum of Contemporary Art in Ciudad Real, the Art in the Forest Museum in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam, the LÔAC – Center for Contemporary Art in Menorca, the City of Havana in Cuba, the collections of the Sevillana Endesa Foundation, the AguaGranada Foundation, the Venancio Blanco Foundation in Madrid, the FRIDE Foundation, the Royal Armory of Cavalry in Seville, and Caixanova, as well as the municipalities of Madrid, Santander, Salamanca, Soria, Seville, Palencia, Cadiz, and Melilla, among others.
