Familiar Strangers. Many Polands

49 Nord 6 Est Frac Lorraine

Family Strangers. Many Polands challenges the myth of a homogeneous national storyline to reveal the differences that constitute each culture’s many layers— and more specifically, those of Poland. Often seen as the home to a homogeneous population, the country was nevertheless built through migratory patterns that have enriched its culture.

The exhibition is an invitation to discover the rich diversity of Poland’s many cultures and trace their connections to Lorraine. Together, these reveal overlapping histories and little-known cohabitations. Moving beyond representations of what has been called ‘Eastern Europe’ – often in contrast to a ‘West’ whose boundaries and definitions have shifted – the exhibition reminds us that differences are integral to the ways we experience the world.
