Two Thousand and Twenty-Five
Location
6-8, rue Jean Origer
L-2269 Luxembourg
The artist duo STRWÜÜ is presenting four works from their series Two Thousand and Twenty-Five, which presents algorithmically mapped territories on silk scarves, representing regions where numerous people lost their lives in violent conflicts in 2025.
Using computer vision algorithms that follow the same logic as those deployed in military reconnaissance and intelligence analysis, the work processes satellite imagery of each region alongside open-source infographics – troop movements, engagement epicenters, and other event data. These heterogeneous sources are iteratively superimposed. During each iteration, the system performs blob detection, draws thin bounding lines, executes morphological operations, and transforms color values according to predefined mathematical rules.
Biography
The artist duo STRWÜÜ (Jo Wanneng/周萬能 & Lukas Fütterer/福⼤⿅) was founded in 2014. They kidnapped a plant, ate for a stop motion animation, and performed together with a giant water lily in a pond. They had inaudible sound objects concealed, used each other as marionettes and spent a long time moving a small stick slowly forward. They layered animals into ever-changing patterns, provided old printers with prostheses, and made Chinese pigeon whistles circle in a huge hall. They tied strings to shape sounds, let insects rain, and constructed noise as unstably as possible. They bridged time to generate space, accompanied industrial buildings while oscillating, and forced air to dance. They deprived fans of their cooling effect, cooked rosin to engender friction, and sank mycelium in dirges. They soldered a low-frequency flock ritually for days, stole your choice with captured wind and punctuated the moment of observation with silence.
