Two rooms will be dedicated to Japanese artist Takako Saito (born in 1929 in Japan, lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany), a collection of whose works was recently acquired by the Frac Lorraine.

Takako Saito is an artist closely linked to Fluxus. While studying psychology in Tokyo in the late 1940s, she joined the Creative Art Education movement, founded by Teijiro Kubo, which advocates free expression and play. Living in New York from 1963 to 1968, where she discovered Fluxus through the artist Ay-O, she collaborated with the movement after meeting George Maciunas, notably through ball and chess games (Fluxchess), then with George Brecht and Robert Filliou. She published her first artist's book in England in 1973 with Beau Geste Press, before working for Francesco Conz Editions from 1975 to 1979, when she moved permanently to Düsseldorf, Germany, teaching at the University of Essen.

This artist, who does not separate life from art, has placed certain elements that she considers fundamental at the center of her practice: taking the audience as a point of orientation, a deep interest in materials and work processes, the joy of play, and, last but not least, anchoring her practice in everyday life.
